News Week of Jan. 5, 2015

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had a nice holiday season with friends and family and is ready to get back into the swing of school activities in this brand new year!  We’d like to remind you about several upcoming events at MLK.

There are only a few days left until our Healthy Living Fair at MLK, next Saturday, January 10th, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the MLK cafeteria.  There’ll be yoga, zumba, and dance classes, a martial arts demonstration, Mr. Deep Positivity, free acupuncture and reiki, tons of healthy living information, and the YMCA inflatable obstacle course. A healthy lunch will be provided by the Miriam Hospital.  Thank you for spreading the word, and we hope to see you at the fair!

Next week there will be a planning meeting of the PTO on Tuesday, January 13th, at 6:00 p.m.  Please come share your ideas for the MLK community, especially if you have an interest in PTO leadership for next year!  Refreshments and childcare will be provided.
Next Friday, January 16th, at 9:30 a.m. there will be a tour of King for prospective families.  If you know a family that might be interested in King for their son or daughter–especially an incoming Kindergartener this fall–please let them know about this opportunity!  No reservation is required.  Interested parties can simply show up next Friday and check in at the office.  For more information, call the school at 456-9398, or reply to this e-mail.

On Monday, January 19th, there will again be a MLK Day of Service, staffed by college art student volunteers from RISD (The Rhode Island School of Design), from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the MLK cafeteria.  This event is open to the community and will involve numerous art projects and crafts in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  This is a fun way for kids to spend the day off school and to connect with the message of Dr. King!

Our annual International Potluck will be held later this month, on Wednesday, January 21st.  If you are interested in helping plan this event, please let us know!  More information about this event will be sent home in backpacks soon.

We hope to see you at all of these great events!  Happy New Year!
