With the arrival of spring (finally!), there are lots of great activities for the MLK community to enjoy. Here is an update on some of our upcoming events:
REMINDER: There will be NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 3rd, for the Good Friday holiday. Also, April vacation is the week of April 20-24.
The Providence Schools calendar for 2015-2016 has just been published! You can find it here: calendar 2015-16. Please note that there are some big changes from this year’s calendar, including a later start date in the fall and the elimination of February vacation week.
Providence Schools has created a Parent Academy to provide free classes for parents on a range of topics. A few examples: Stress Reduction Strategies, Culture and Identity, Next Generation Science. Check out the offerings and sign up at this link: parent academy classes.
There will be a tour of the school for new and prospective students on Friday, April 10, from 9:30-10:30. If you know of a family with children entering MLK in the fall, please let them know about this tour! They can e-mail MLKPTO@gmail.com for more information, or simply show up in the main office on the 10th at 9:30.
There will be a Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting on Tuesday, April 14, from 6:00-7:00 in the MLK library. Please join us to discuss plans for upcoming events and your ideas for improving the experience of everyone in our school community. We need your participation to make MLK the best it can be, for the benefit of our children!
On Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m., we will present the MLK Elementary Night of the Stars Talent Show! Many thanks to all children and family members who joined us in the library last Friday for our first meeting. Rehearsals will take place on Fridays at 2:15 p.m. as follows: April 10, April 17, and May 1. For all families with kids who sent in permission forms and plan to participate in the Talent Show: please check your children’s backpacks on Thursday for important announcements and more information. We are looking forward to a great night!
Former student Zeke Cohen will be completing his Eagle Scout Service Project at MLK in May. He’s raising some money to purchase materials. If you are interested in learning more about this community garden-based project, or want to help out in some way, check it out at: gofundme.com/qbf4dk.
Stay tuned for more information about these and other terrific King events, including McTeacher Night, the MLK school dance, a Chuck E. Cheese fundraiser, STEAM Night, Field Day, a spring carnival, Awards Night, and the Moving On ceremony for 5th graders!
Thanks for your participation in these great events, and enjoy the slowly-warming weather!
