Reminder: No School on Wednesday, November 11

MLK Scholastic Book Fair, November 16-20
HELP THE MLK LIBRARY! Every year, the King PTO runs a very successful Book Fair for our students, teachers, and families. We donate all profits from the Book Fair to the MLK school library, which allows us to add hundreds of new titles per year to the collection. This is the main source for new library books.

STUDENT VISITS! All students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair with their classrooms. We will send home information this week about your child’s days to visit (one day to preview, and another day to shop) along with the Scholastic Book Fair flier. You can also check the MLK PTO website for class visit information.

FAMILY NIGHT AND ONLINE SHOPPING! Don’t miss the Book Fair Family Night on Wednesday, November 18, 5:00 – 7:00 pm! This is a great opportunity to shop for holiday gifts. New this year: the Book Fair will be online from November 11-November 30. Please visit for a link to the online store and more Book Fair information.

PLEASE VOLUNTEER! The Book Fair requires a big crew to be successful. Please sign up for one shift, or many. No training required. We just need you to come and lend a hand. Please visit to volunteer, or fill out and send in the form that went home in backpacks last week. Thank you!

PLEASE DONATE BOOKS! We need great gently used books. We give every child a book to take home, whether or not they are able to buy a book at the book fair. Please donate books that will go into the hands of eager MLK readers. There’s a box in the lobby ready for your donations.

Family-Teacher Conferences, Wednesday, November 18
Families are invited to schedule conferences with teachers during the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, November 18. Information about specific times for each classroom will be coming home with students.

Thanksgiving Food Donations
In order to help all families in need have an abundant Thanksgiving, MLK Elementary students are collecting food. Please donate items as follows:

Kindergarten: Bags or boxes of stuffing
1st Grade: Turkey Gravy
2nd Grade: Cranberry or apple sauce
3rd Grade: Canned vegetables
4th Grade: Instant potatoes or bags of potatoes
5th Grade: Sweet potatoes, yams, or squash
Please send food items into school with your children. Thank you!

Skyward Family Information Portal Now Accessible
Last week, students brought home information about accessing Skyward, Providence Public Schools’ student information system. Please contact the MLK Elementary office at 401-456-9398 if you did not receive your login.

Clothing Donations Needed
From time to time, kids need to change their clothes at school, and nurse Rhoda O’Keefe maintains a supply of clothing in various sizes for boys and girls. We are seeking donations to make sure there’s enough, so as you’re gathering up books to donate, and food to donate, thank you for continuing your generosity with clothing that your family can spare. You can send clothing for donations into school with your children.

Providence Public Schools Climate and Culture Survey
Students have received copies of a climate and culture survey that the Providence Public Schools is conducting. Your input is very important. Please fill out the survey on paper or online before December 4.

All the best,

Jill Davidson (MLK PTO President) on behalf of the MLK PTO
