PTO Meeting Wednesday, December 9, 6:30 pm
Please join us at the December MLK PTO meeting, which will feature MLK Elementary’s math specialist, Lori Whalen. Ms. Whalen will share information about our school’s math curriculum, so please come with questions! Principal Lussier will share information about our school’s PARCC test scores. We will also discuss ways that King can strengthen connections among neighborhood families, so that we can celebrate the school’s place at the center of the Mt. Hope neighborhood, and ask the community for advocacy and support for building improvements and other projects. Childcare will be available. Please RSVP:

Shop and Support King!
As you take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, please remember to use the MLK PTO’s Amazon Smile link, which is By clicking there, and regularly using Amazon Smile, every Amazon purchase will support the PTO. We’re gearing up for fundraising to make sure we can support another round of fabulous field trips, teacher appreciation, and more, and your participation makes a big difference. Thanks!

MLK Elementary Tours for Prospective Families on Friday, December 4
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School invites prospective families of children entering in any grade and others who wish to visit King to join a tour and meeting with Principal Kristen Lussier on December 4 at 9:30 am. Please arrive a few minutes early to allow time to sign in at the school office. Children are welcome, though please know that King is not stroller-friendly. Please share this tour date with friends and family members who are looking at schools. There’s more information on Facebook: We will also be offering tours on Wednesday, January 6 and Tuesday, January 26, both at 9:30 am.

MLK Scholastic Book Fair: Big Success!
Many thanks to EVERYONE in the MLK Elementary School community for a hugely successful book fair! We donate all profits from the Book Fair to the MLK school library, which allows us to add hundreds of new titles per year to the collection. This is the main source for new library books. We are grateful to our students who showed us that they love to read! We also appreciate families for providing financial support to encourage your kids’ love of reading, teachers who found time to bring their classes to the book fair, the MLK administration and staff for endless support, and especially the many rock star parent and family volunteers who made the book fair happen! Finally, a big thanks to the many families and staff members who contributed gently used books. All children were able to go home with at least one book of their choice. Thanks to all!

Thanksgiving Food Donations – Mission Accomplished!
As usual, our community came together generously to support families in need. The school used students’ food contributions and Stop and Shop gift cards donated by the PTO to create 12 Thanksgiving food baskets that have been donated to make sure that all families can have a happy and delicious Thanksgiving. This was a great team effort!

Clothing Donations Needed
From time to time, kids need to change their clothes at school, and nurse Rhoda O’Keefe maintains a supply of clothing in various sizes for boys and girls. We are seeking donations to make sure there’s enough, so as you’re gathering up books to donate, and food to donate, thank you for continuing your generosity with clothing that your family can spare. You can send clothing for donations into school with your children.

Providence Public Schools Climate and Culture Survey
Students have received copies of a climate and culture survey that the Providence Public Schools is conducting. Your input is very important. Please fill out the survey on paper or online before December 4.

All the best and happy thanksgiving!

Jill Davidson (MLK PTO President) on behalf of the MLK PTO
