Community News 10/6/2014

Thank you to all members of the MLK community–students, staff, and parents–who helped make the Flight of the Falcon walk-a-thon a success!  The kids had a great time, got some exercise and fresh air, and raised funds for new technology for the classrooms.  Stay tuned to find out how much money was raised…and remember that it’s not too late to send in a contribution!  Donations can be sent to school with students or dropped off in the main office.

Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, October 13th, Columbus Day.

There will be a PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 14th, at 6:00 p.m.  We will be covering a wide range of PTO business, including upcoming events.  If you are interested in getting more involved with your child’s school, please attend if you can or let us know via e-mail of your interest!  Remember that volunteer applications must be filled out in the office.  If you have not yet done so, please ask for an application!

We are looking for volunteers for the upcoming Harvest Fest event, to be held Wednesday, October 22nd.  We need help selling/serving food, assisting kids with crafts, and donating treats to the bake sale.  We also need assistance with set up and clean up.  If you are able to help, please let us know!  Flyers will be going home in backpacks soon with more information about these opportunities and the Harvest Fest in general.

The MLK Book Fair will be held from November 18-20 in the gym.  The fair will be open during school hours, but also on the evening of November 18th, to coincide with parent-teacher conferences.  We are looking for parents who are interested in signing up to work a shift (or more!) in exchange for book credit for their kids.  We are also looking for someone to intern this year in order to run the book fair next year, as the current coordinator has a 5th grader who will be moving on to middle school.  Please let us know of your interest as soon as possible.

Sign up for a table at the holiday Bazaar, which will be held at MLK on Saturday, December 13th.  Table rentals will be $25 each, plus a small donation of a raffle prize.  If you have items to sell–new or gently used–this is a great opportunity to make some extra holiday cash.  It’s also a great way to shop for gifts!  Forms will go home in backpacks next week.
